ilomilo is a recent addition to the WP7 Marketplace but was a game demoed when Windows Phone 7 was announced in early 2010.  The aim of the game is fairly simple, navigate two friends names Ilo and Milo through a 3D maze back to each other.

Each level has a number of different puzzles or mazes to complete with various different obstacles in the way.  The mazes are created from 3D cubes which Ilo and Milo can walk on all sides of.

Gameplay, while simple to understand can get very challenging, you constantly have to be looking around for the next part of the route to your friend, and in quite a few cases the two have to work together to complete a puzzle.  You will definitely have to be looking three of four steps ahead.  Magic carpets allow the characters to step onto the side of the cube, whilst other critters will pop up to block your way.

Graphics and game mechanics are awesome.  The game has a sort of patchwork feel to it, not unlike that of LittleBigPlanet on the PS3.  Controls are simple and responsive, stepping onto a magic carpet spins the maze, flipping the world upside down.

Whilst trying to reunite Ilo and Milo you also have to collect all the Safkas in that maze.  Collecting all the Safkas from all the mazes on a single level unlocks a bonus maze.  Adding a little extra challenge.

ilomilo is simply a great simple but challenging way well suited to the smartphone environment.  Easy controls and fluid graphics make it a joy to play while the mazes will keep you engaged for hours.
